Important Closure Notice

The McMichael will close temporarily, effective Wednesday, January 5, 2022, as the province returns to the modified version of Step Two of the Roadmap to Reopen for at least 21 days (until January 26, 2022), subject to trends in public health and health system indicators. We are currently in the process of processing refunds. All timed-admission tickets will be refunded automatically. If your ticket isn’t refunded within 10 business days, please contact us at info@mcmichael.com

McMichael Visitor Vaccination Policy

The McMichael’s commitment to providing you with the best possible experience means that safety remains our top priority.  Please note the following change to our vaccination policy.

As of October 25, 2021 anyone 12 years of age and older must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to visit the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.  The McMichael will require proof of vaccination along with an official government ID upon entry to the Gallery.  As of January 4, 2022, vaccine receipts must include a QR code to be accepted as valid proof of vaccination.

Requirements

As of September 22, 2021, all visitors of the McMichael Café and guests of indoor meetings and events at the McMichael must show proof of identification and proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they can enter the area, with limited exceptions as per the rules set out by the Ministry of Health.

As of October 25, 2021, the McMichael will require proof of vaccination for all visitors 12 years of age and older. Entry will be denied to individuals 12 years of age and older who cannot prove full vaccination status.

As of January 4, 2022, vaccine receipts must include a QR code to be accepted as valid proof of vaccination.

Exemptions: The McMichael will accept document exemptions as outlined by the Province of Ontario. Please visit the Ontario.ca website for more information.

– Children 11 years of age and under are not required to be vaccinated and do not need to show negative test results at this time.

Acceptable Vaccinations
The McMichael will accept any combination of vaccines currently approved by the Province of Ontario, with the last dose having been administered at least 14 days prior to your visit. Please visit the Ontario.ca website for more information.

Documentation

Before entry, all visitors 12 years of age and older will be asked to show the following as acceptable proof of vaccination:  

  • Receipt of full COVID-19 vaccination issued by the public health authority that administered the vaccine. This can be a paper or digital document. However, as of January 4, 2022, in accordance with new provincial guidelines, all vaccine receipts must include a QR code, in addition to your name and date of birth, number of doses and the name of the vaccine you have received. For visitors who received their vaccinations in Ontario, documents can be accessed at covid19.ontariohealth.ca/ with an OHIP number. If you are visiting from outside of Ontario and have proof of vaccination from another province, territory or country, it is valid if it shows that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and incudes your name, date of birth, number of doses, name of vaccine and a QR code. 

AND

  • Government issued ID (i.e. driver’s license, health card or passport) that matches the proof of full vaccination documentation. Your ID must include your name and date of birth.

General Visitor Guidelines & FAQs

The safety and health of our visitors, volunteers and staff remain our top priority. When the McMichael is open, please be aware of the following:

  • Please refrain from visiting the McMichael if you feel unwell or suspect that you have come into contact with an individual showing symptoms of COVID-19. Click here for more information from the Government of Ontario’s self-assessment page, and here for details on COVID-19 Screening Questions that we ask all visitors to review before entering the McMichael.
  • All visitors are asked to make note of the passive screening measures as indicated by signage located at the entrances.
  • All visitors 2 years old and over are required to wear a mask indoors (medical/other conditions exempt).
  • All frontline staff members will be wearing masks.
  • All tickets, including member tickets, must be purchased or reserved in advance using our timed ticketing system.
  • Please practice physical distancing and remain a minimum of two metres (6 ft.) away from other visitors at all times.
  • All visitors must sanitize their hands upon entering the Gallery. Sanitation Stations are located throughout the building.
  • We kindly request that visitors follow all posted safety guidelines, directional signs and the instructions of McMichael staff members.
  • McMichael guides and staff will be limiting the number of visitors allowed into spaces, including all galleries, the Founders’ Lounge, Gallery Shop and elevators. We thank you for your patience and understanding if you are asked to wait.
  • At this time, the coat room is currently in use and lockers are available.
  • Limited-menu dining options may be available on-site.

Unfortunately, timed-entry tickets are not transferrable or refundable.

  • Timed ticketing has been implemented for all visitors, including McMichael members, to manage capacity and visitor flow.
  • McMichael staff will be sanitizing public spaces on an enhanced cleaning schedule.
  • Visitors are encouraged to use a number of hand sanitation stations positioned around the Gallery.
  • Frontline staff will be wearing personal protective equipment and masks as they interact with visitors.
  • Transactions and payments will be touchless/contactless. Payment by debit or credit is strongly preferred.
  • All drinking fountains will remain closed until further notice. Personal water bottles may be consumed outside of Gallery spaces.

Yes. When the McMichael is open, all visitors age 2 and over are required to wear a mask. Children under age 2 are exempt, as are those who cannot wear a face covering because of a medical or other condition. Thank you in advance for helping keep our community safe.

We strongly encourage all visitors to leave valuables and large personal items at home or in their car upon visiting, as these are not permitted in the galleries. The coat room is in use with limited capacity. Lockers are available.

When it is open, the Café will follow restrictions set out in accordance with Ontario’s Roadmap to Reopen (Stage 3). Please note that the McMichael Café only offers contactless payment and will not accept cash. Please note that the Café does not currently not accept reservations and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The Gallery Shop is closed for in-store shopping while the McMichael is closed temporarily, effective Wednesday, January 5, 2022 as per the province-wide efforts to mitigate and prevent the spread of COVID-19. In the meantime, our eShop is open at the Gallery Shop!

Complimentary or reciprocal tickets can be booked by selecting “McMichael Guest Pass” as your ticket type. Upon arrival at the Gallery, please present your pass or reciprocal membership card (plus ID).

When the gallery is open, we are only accepting the Attractions Ontario coupon. The discount offered through this coupon is not available online, but it can be redeemed by calling the gallery at 905.893.1121, or sending us an email at info@mcmichael.com.

Frontline workers receive free parking ($7 value) to visit the grounds and trails seven days a week. This offer applies to residents of Ontario who are doctors, nurses, hospital employees, paramedics, police officers, firefighters, grocery store workers, mass transit employees, retirement and long-term care workers, social services, emergency shelter staff, sanitation and waste management employees, and others. Please show work ID at the parking booth when visiting the McMichael. On behalf of everyone at the McMichael, thank you for your hard work and dedication to keeping our community safe.

The McMichael offers free General Admission to Indigenous Peoples, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis.

Parking & Grounds

The grounds and trails are open seven days a week. When walking or hiking the grounds and trails, please comply with public health advice on physical distancing. Outdoor public washrooms are currently closed while the McMichael is closed temporarily. Please note that parking along En Plein Air Drive, a fire route, is not permitted and vehicles are subject to ticketing by the city. We appreciate your understanding.

McMichael Members are welcome to bring guests using their Guest Passes. Member Plus holders are also welcome to bring a guest. When booking tickets online, simply select McMichael Guest Pass for your guest. Guest Passes must be collected by admissions staff at the front desk upon arrival.

Memberships are non-refundable and will not be put on hold to accommodate those who do not meet the McMichael’s Visitor Vaccination requirements.

Members who have a valid medical exemption, as outlined by the Province of Ontario, may contact the Membership Department for special consideration.

Programs & Events

When the McMichael is open, you are welcome to bring an attendant with you for accessibility reasons and are entitled to a 2-for-1 discount. Simply enter the code ACCESS50 when purchasing admission tickets online for yourself and your attendant.

Permanent seating is available in many of our galleries. The McMichael is also pleased to offer complimentary portable seating to our visitors. Please inquire about portable seating at our Admissions Desk upon check-in. For the safety of our visitors and staff, all portable stools are sanitized frequently.
