Visiting the Gallery
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is located on the original lands of the Ojibwe Anishinaabe and Huron-Wendat People. It is uniquely situated along the Carrying Place Trail which historically provided an integral connection for Indigenous people between Ontario’s Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe-Georgian Bay Region.
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is located in the charming Village of Kleinburg, approximately 35 minutes north of Toronto. Use the Google Map tool below to get directions to the gallery – by public transit, car, or bike! – from wherever you are.
The McMichael’s permanent collection consists of more than 7,000 artworks by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, and First Nations, Métis, Inuit and contemporary artists who have contributed to the development of Canadian art.
How to Get Here
The McMichael is located at 10365 Islington Avenue, Kleinburg, ON, Canada, L0J 1C0, off Islington Avenue in the Village of Kleinburg. It is North of Major Mackenzie Drive and easily accessible and about 10 minutes away off the 400 and 427 Highways.
Parking fee: $7 (free for Members)
The closest subway stop is Vaughan Metropolitan Centre on TTC Line 1. Please check the TTC website for times and schedules.
There is no direct route by public transportation from the subway station. The easiest way to get to the Gallery from VMC is by taxi or ride share. This trip takes about 20 minutes.
There is no direct bus route to the McMichael. You can use the YRT Trip Planner to see available bus options including the #13 Bus and the #85 bus, both of which include more than 30 minutes of walking.
If you are walking down En Plein Air Drive from Islington Avenue you will get to the Gallery in about 5-8 minutes. The driveway is paved with no sidewalk. We have many trails and pathways ideal for brisk walking, jogging or cycling.
Note to cyclists: bike racks are available near the entrance of the Gallery.
The McMichael Art Bus returns for 2023! Travel in comfort from downtown Toronto to the McMichael on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. By popular demand the Art Bus will continue for two final weekends: December 8, 9, 10 and December 15, 16, 17, 2023. Departure time is at 10:30 am, from St. George Station (Bedford Road exit).

Inspired by the landscape of the Humber River Valley and the McMichael’s unparalleled collection of Canadian art, CABIN’s interior was designed by award-winning Toronto Denizens of Design to evoke the creativity that has inspired Canadian artists of the past and present. The McMichael has partnered with acclaimed Canadian hospitality institution Food Dudes to offer visitors a carefully curated selection of delicious dishes made with the finest locally sourced ingredients. Enjoy a hearty lunch or coffee and tea with some of the best views in Ontario. Debit and credit only. Please note that CABIN is not currently accepting reservations. Open during gallery hours.

Walking Trails
With over 100 acres of stunning woodland, our grounds have kilometres of trails perfect for hikers, naturalists, walkers and mountain bikers. The paths wind their way through natural stands of maple, oak and pine, along the Humber River to Binder Twine Park. Some of trails are wheelchair accessible – please visit our accessibility page or contact us for more information. The nearby Kortright Conservation Centre, with its network of groomed forest trails, is connected to the gallery land.
